從來都對有錢人沒好感。有錢人除了有錢之外,就什麼也不懂。我過去一直是這樣認為的。於是連帶所謂收藏家這類人,也敬而遠之。什麼收藏家?還不是光有錢,才可以不停地買。我這種想法,當然是錯了。

誰是專家?

但其實他們跟一般人真的沒有太大的分別。其中之一的分別,當然是他們比大部份人有錢。曾經有人問我,能成為收藏家,金錢重要,還有有閒重要,當然是錢更重要。但亦無可否認,時間也很重要。認識他們,才知道他們真的花了很多時間去研究,讀雜誌,上網,去錶店,跟賣錶的研究,跟同好研究。他們知道的,比我更多,他們才是專家。

專家之中,尤以勞力士的專家最多,最狂熱。原因何在?姑且嘗試歸納一下。第一,勞力士歷史較長,幾十年來不少精品。第二,勞力士價格貼地(除了手上鍊Daytona和一些古董Submariner款式在今天成為天價之作外),入場門檻較低。第三,勞力士過去有不少創新發明,夠傳奇,夠多故事可資發掘,可堪回味。第四,我覺得這個最重要,就是勞力士十分可靠。也不知原因何在,大概是防水和避震性能俱佳,潤滑油又超好(可能有特別配方),結果一枚六十年代出品的勞力士,到今天可以仍然運行如常。縱然不是超準,但也不會很差。以前都沒有保養的意識,通常都是錶快了慢了許多,又或者甚至停了,才會拿去修理。其他品牌的錶或拿去零售商,但很多勞力士的owner則會主動自己把錶送回原廠修理(尤其是當錶是上一代留下來的話,發票找不到,就連以前光顧的那間錶店亦可能已經結業)。不過這只是一般人的情況,那些專家是不會這樣做的。怕他們幫你換面換鏡幫你翻新,這才大大糟蹋了專家們追求original的樂趣。沒拿去做保養維修,但竟然幾十年都運行如常。也許有些品牌都做得到,但沒多少品牌在過去六七十年都從無間斷地生產。有生產,但數量亦不會有那麼多。有那麼多,質素亦沒有可能保持如此高水準。
對不起,對於勞力士,不管新錶,還是舊錶,我是完完全全的門外漢,一頭霧水。

全球VIP

這些收藏家當然懂錶,但更厲害的是,他們真的買錶,而且不停買。以前,八九十年代可能還習慣只會跟一間店舖相熟。但隨著過去二十年的錶壇盛世,錶店林立,新一代的收藏家不會只光顧同一間錶店。他們不但是個別品牌的VIP,他們還是很多品牌的VIP。他們不光是一間零售店的常客,不同的零售店都對他們禮遇有加。但近年因為國內遊客的增加,高級錶店都竟給擠得水洩不通。從前門又高狗又惡,甚至有護衛拿著鳥槍在門口站崗的情況已不復見。現在珠寶錶店中門大開,就是怕你不來。人頭湧湧,於是這些收藏家都不去了。再加上僧多粥少,連錶也有國內同胞來一起搶。少光顧AD(authorized dealer),還有很多選擇。今天,他們到歐洲買,到美國買。有錢,懂錶的,全球錶店都知道他們是收藏家,全球錶店都視他們為VIP。

進口天堂

走到世界各國去買錶,除了有錢,除了狂熱,他們還真的有閒。上一代的有錢人大多數是實業家,都要做,都忙。可今天全球經濟轉型,蓋茨做IT,馬雲都是做IT,巴菲特炒股。不是說新一代的富豪不用做,但他們實在跟以前的實業家分別很大。雖然我們好像只會對國內的年輕有錢人才稱呼為富二代,但其實我們的李澤楷都是富二代,霍震霆都是富二代,剛離世的鄧永鏘亦是富二代。這些富二代還馬不停蹄,但如果是富三代的話,真的輕鬆不少了。在今天這個由科技、金融和零售主導的經濟模式下,新一代的有錢人,實在有機會比上一代空閒。當然交通便利都有關係,於是他們可以到世界各地買錶。哪裡有貨,哪裡提供更好的價錢,他們就到哪裡買。而且只消去一兩次,熟絡之後就不用再去。錶店會主動找他門。香港的收藏家在全球世界各地都受歡迎,因為香港沒有進口關稅。香港人要買,寄過來就可以,超級方便。如果是過百萬的錶,他們飛來交貨也不成問題。也許你不知道,錶廠的人,是很喜歡來香港的。

集郵一樣

到不同錶行買錶,到世界各地買錶。今天,因為通訊和交通便利,這些收藏家的網絡遍布全球,目的就是要找你買不到的。記得二十年前初接觸高級腕錶,才知道原來有所謂收藏家這回事。其實也不是個個都自命不凡(相反,很多都很低調,很平易近人),不是個個都當自己是收藏家;只是傳媒不知道如何address,便統稱這些買很多錶的人做收藏家,把這一切都吹到很grand很厲害。於是我也跟著糊裡糊塗,走去研究怎樣才算是收藏家呢?多此一舉,庸人自擾。今次難得相邀多位watch lovers,說明不是什麼專訪,只是想看一下他們的collections而已。大家開開心心吃飯,開開心心看一下錶。讓我終於明白,大部份watch lovers,其心態就跟我小時集郵一樣。小時集郵,根本沒有什麼所謂方向策略,純粹覺得有趣,覺得郵票漂亮,然後慢慢累積,看到收藏愈來愈豐富,就有一種成功感。當然最成功是獲得十分罕有的郵票啦,竟然連列支敦士登的郵票都有,哎喲法國在1999年推出的小王子小全張都有,好叻啊!集錶跟集郵差不多,藏品愈罕有愈矜貴。當然,不同的是,集錶可超級花錢(玩舊錶可能不用花那麼多,但都所費不菲);而集郵則貼地好多。噢!sorry,今天集郵可能更難,因為都沒了。原來郵票在無聲無息間,在我們不知不覺間正慢慢消失在這世上。

朋輩壓力

另外,同樣跟集郵的情況一樣,跟同樣喜歡集郵的朋友分享自己的收藏,難得找到列支敦士登的郵票,當然希望可以讓朋友見識一下,讓他們羨慕一番。不過與此同時,若其他郵票都只是常見的款式,但自己卻竟然珍而重之,這豈不是讓朋友取笑嗎?收集腕錶也一樣。現在可以到全球各地去找錶,除了尋覓難得找到的限量版之餘,也為了格價。哪裡可以便宜一點就到哪裡買,這些watch lovers沒多少個節儉,也不可能算缺錢,他們只是不想被其他watch lovers取笑。你拿到半價,我可以拿到四折哩。你花了十萬,我知道在哪裡只售九萬九千九百九,幹嗎不問我哩?會跟同好交流心得,買貴了這種事,他們是無論如何都不想做。不是怕多花了錢,他們只是怕給朋友取笑。

吹鬚碌眼

不過與其買貴了,買不到可更叫人不甘心。難得的錶,十分限量的貨色,朋友竟然手上面就戴著一枚,自己卻給店員推搪說要排隊啊,可能要等上一年半載唷,這一定是watch lovers界最不能容忍的事情的名單上,排第一位。所以才會有炒賣的情況,才會有炒價的出現。不過話又說回來,真正的收藏家和資深的watch lovers是不會用炒價去買錶的。付炒價去買錶,就好像在球場上用上超技術,是犯規的行為,真正的收藏家和資深的watch lovers都不屑這樣做。他們要用真正的慧眼,用良好的網絡關係去得到那些限量版,這樣他們才會甘心,才能在朋友圈中贏得光明磊落。

世界大戰

不錯,收藏腕錶之同時,也是跟同好在較量競技。而且那不只是單對單的對決,而是兩國之間的戰爭,甚至幾個國家之間的戰爭,是世界大戰。光有一兩枚稀有的,亦只是贏得同好一兩次的稱讚和羨慕。有一個好的collection,才真正教同好佩服得心服口服。假如覺得戰爭好像太誇張,或許一隊球隊更容易理解。大家想要的不單單是一兩個好球員,而是要組織起一隊dream team。你有美斯嗎?我也有C朗。你有勒邦占士嗎?我有也杜蘭特;而且光有一個杜蘭特還未足夠,還需要咖喱仔和一眾隊友的配合,需要眾志成誠所產生的化學作用。我所說的戰爭,就是各人都在心底裡較量,要build up一個更有趣更了不起的collection。

要集齊一套呀

如是者,這個collection除了陣容鼎盛之餘,還可以反映出收藏者的character。有人專門收藏古董勞力士,有人專門收藏七十年代的計時錶,有人獨愛運動款式,有人偏愛獨立製錶人的作品。今次難得找到不少watch lovers慷概相助,借出他們部份的collection給我們拍照。其中一位更收藏了幾十枚當年用Beta 21石英機芯(可說是第一代的瑞士石英機芯)的腕錶,實在叫人大開眼界。另外,對於經營一個出色collection,還講求一定的完整性。收藏Beta 21機芯的那位朋友,還同時在收集採用勞力士機芯的Eaton腕錶。Eaton是一間加拿大的百貨公司,他們找勞力士造錶,用來送給在公司服務達二十五年的員工,所以除了錶面上會寫著Eaton之外,錶面上還會用1/4 Century Club的字樣來代替刻度。大約由上世紀二、三十年代到五、六十年代之間,委託勞力士造過六款時計,其中一款是袋錶(這都是我在網上找來的資料,如有紕漏,見諒)。而這位朋友,至今找到四枚,實在了不起。

真的保值

以前不明白,有時候還暗地裡覺得有些人根本不懂,只是有錢,什麼也買。但其實懂得的,很多。所懂得的,亦比我多。這些既懂錶,又有錢的資深watch lovers,自然不是什麼也買。庸脂俗粉固然不買,誰也買得到的都非他們所想,他們只追求那些,難得到的,和可以保值的。在這裡先說句對不起,過去自以為是,常說保值只是一些別有用心的人所製造出來的假象,然後又有一大班人不明就裡就跟風追求什麼保值,我曾說過根本沒有保值這回事。但經過今次見識到這班資深watch lovers的收藏後,我明白原來這世上真的有保值的腕錶。

保值的是招牌

當然產量多的腕錶較難保值,但能夠保值的作品,可並不光靠獨自的產量數目,世上還是有不少限量作品乏人問津。限量還未足夠,限產才重要。要有效控制整個品牌的產量,並且要嚴格規管銷售渠道,確保不會有低價以求促銷的情況出現,這樣才能維持整個品牌的定位、形象和價值。那些沒能吸引watch lovers的限量作品,就是因為品牌沒做好整體的銷售管理,所以即使個別作品又限量又出色都於事無補。其實不光是易手時無人問津而價格大跌,是因為根本新錶推出時,都有可能賤價出售,試問這樣的產品又怎會引起資深錶迷的注意和興趣。而資深錶迷跟幾乎所有賣錶的人都有聯繫,都認識,他們對市場敏感,清楚什麼品牌有良好的銷售管理,跟同好又不時交流意見;自然能夠洞悉什麼款式會一錶難求,什麼款式會受追捧,什麼錶能夠保值。我一竅不通,還得多多向他們學習。

比新錶有趣

幹嗎想到做這個專輯?就是想跟這些資深watch lovers偷師之餘,也因為實在江郎才盡。本來就已經黔驢技窮,再加上由2015年起錶市開始進入調整期,有趣新奇的作品明顯減少,品牌也少辦活動,投放到雜誌的資源也少。我之前幾期也說過,今天的雜誌業愈來愈難經營。沒新錶想寫,就趁此機會做一些我過去沒做過的專題,於是便有這個Watch Lovers特輯。在此再一次多謝所有給我們借錶拍照的朋友,也真的讓我和讀者大開眼界,亦教我茅塞頓開。

大開眼界

雖然過去常說自己不是專家,之前也許是裝謙虛,亦真的不敢,明白天外有天。今天,真的由衷之言。其實我所認識的資深watch lovers,人數很少,大約二十個吧。保守估計(真的十分保守),我所認識的只是全港真正資深錶迷的百分之一,那麼香港也有二千名serious watch lovers。假設他們每人每年平均花五十萬買錶(這也十分保守吧),這都已經是十億之數(我亂猜,香港入口瑞士高級腕錶的總額,過去兩三年平均每年大約二十億吧)。要確保香港未來高級腕錶零售業的發展,大家應好好招呼這班人呀!他們有錢,懂錶,人脈又廣。他們的意見尤其重要,而他們認識的,也實在比我多好多好多。就好像今次有朋友給我看一枚只在紐約第五大道的Tiffany總店才會找得到的百達翡麗5712,我就根本不知道原來今天仍有這種crossover哩(因為Tiffany自己也推出腕錶產品,過去更曾經跟Swatch集團合作)。

沒有複雜錶

今期大家在這個專輯所看到的腕錶作品,不少都是第一次在香港雜誌上出現。希望大家喜歡吧。這裡刊登出來的,當然只是他們收藏的冰山一角。他們個個都收藏了過百枚錶,當中不少擁有超過二百枚錶,沒可能叫他們一次過拿來拍照。那麼第一次讓收藏上鏡,選哪些好了?我就提議,不如帶上一些另類一點,少見一點的,off-stream一點,好嗎?於是大家就見到這些錶。沒有很複雜的作品,只因今次主題不是以複雜為重點。品牌名字就恕我不逐個羅列,大家除了看有份出現的品牌之餘,其實沒有在這裡出現的更值得大家留意。為什麼沒出現?就是因為不受watch lovers歡迎?還是因為有什麼其他原因?

供求定律

股壇有股評家,他們可能真材實學,我這個所謂錶評家無非濫竽充數。過去評錶,漂亮與否,都是主觀角度。所謂客觀標準,還不是比較。都是就每一枚錶個別討論。究竟先有好品牌,後有好錶;還是先有好錶,才有好品牌;都是雞先還是蛋先的問題。但如果阿當史密夫的供求定律仍然千載不變的話,那麼控制到供應和價格,就能左右需求。我絕對不是什麼錶評家,都不知什麼錶好。可這些watch lovers,當收到電話,給錶店職員推銷某一款錶;之後接二連三接到幾個電話,都是推銷同一款的話。這款錶,就前景堪虞。問意見,拿貼士,問這些watch lovers好了。
